Cohesion, Temperance, and Prudence

Different institutions have different Codes of Ethics based on their inherent function and purpose. The OSC believes that its Code is applicable to all institutions regardless of their purpose because they are universal values for good human and institutional behavior. These values are Cohesion, Temperance, and Prudence; when applied to an institution they will improve the unity of its personnel, the behavior of its staff, and the wisdom of its actions. The Code of Ethics of the OSC is multifaceted and may be applied variably based on the institution its EOMs are overseeing.

Uphold Cohesion

Cohesion is the unity of an institution; to the OSC the most important pillar of cohesion will be its Ethical Oversight Monitors (EOMs). EOMs must have administrative authority within any institution they are present in pertaining to matters of ethical compliance and behavioral discipline. The EOM must be able to ensure that unity towards his role is upheld; cohesion is the starting step for the Code of Ethics.

Promote Temperance

When Cohesion is properly upheld, the next step is to Promote Temperance. Temperance is a wide concept, it involves ensuring the person behavior of officials and employees do not lead to excess consumption that will compromise their professional nature. It also includes ensuring the actions of an institution does not lead to nor promote inappropriate consumption based behaviors in the larger population. A culture of self-restrain and moderation is key to ensuring optimal psychological profiles in all people.

Act with Prudence

Prudence defends all things once established; when Cohesion and Temperance are properly inculcated in an instituion, Prudential foresight will be utilized to defend them. Many EOMs will be in government entities, Prudence is key to ensure what actions or policies said government authority enacts does not harm both Cohesion and Temperance. Critical carefulness and forthought will be key in ensuring that actions of institutions do not harm this Code of Ethics.
